Beneath the pressure suit, the astronauts wore an undergarment which had waffle-weave ventilating patches, as shown in this drawing, to serve as spacers in areas where the astronaut’s body would be pressed too tightly against the suit to allow for ventilation. The patches allowed the free passage of air.
